Journey to Kefalonia

Tips how to get to Kefalonia

By Air: The most common way to reach Kefalonia is by flying. Kefalonia International Airport (IATA code: EFL) is located near the island’s capital, Argostoli. You can find direct flights from various European cities, particularly during the summer season. Airlines such as Aegean Airlines, Ryanair, and EasyJet often operate flights to Kefalonia.

By Ferry: If you’re already in Greece or nearby islands, you can take a ferry to Kefalonia. Ferries operate from several ports on the mainland, such as Patras and Kyllini, as well as from other Ionian islands like Zakynthos, Ithaca and Lefkada. The ferry journey offers a scenic experience, especially if you’re traveling from nearby islands.

By Car: Once you’re on the mainland, if you prefer to drive, you can rent a car and take a ferry from ports like Kyllini to Poros or Astakos to Sami, that are the main ports on Kefalonia. From Poros or Sami, you can explore the island at your own pace.

By Bus: If you’re traveling within Greece, you can also take a bus to towns like Patras or Kyllini, and then transfer to a ferry to Kefalonia. The bus system in Greece is relatively efficient and connects major cities with ports.

By Yacht or Private Boat: For those with access to a yacht or private boat, Kefalonia offers several marinas and ports where you can dock. This option provides flexibility and the opportunity to explore the island’s coastline.

Once you’ve arrived in Kefalonia, you can explore its stunning beaches, picturesque villages, and natural beauty. Renting a car or scooter is recommended for getting around the island, as public transportation can be limited, especially if you want to explore more remote areas.
